Vienna

Vienna, the capital of Austria is famous for many things, but above all for its specialities. The culinary sensations of this centuries-old city range from Wiener Schnitzel (fillet of veal fried in breadcrumbs) to Wienerwürstchen, (the famous wiener sausages) Apfelkren (horse-radish with apple) and exquisite deserts to "Powidlpalatschinken" (thin pancakes with plum jam).The 1.5 million inhabitants of Vienna have a jolly temperament, and like to get together and have a "bit of a laugh" to drive away occasional melancholy. Sitting down at a table in a restaurant or enjoying a glass of "Heurigen" (freshly fermented autumn wine) in a garden establishment is always preferable to staying in one's own living room. In Vienna there is no shortage of places to go for a meal or just a drink. To experience something of the atmosphere of those years, take one of the horse-drawn cabs and allow yourself to be driven in grand style through the town, past the Hofreitschule (Court Riding School) the Hofburg and St. Stephen's Cathedral, perhaps stopping at the "Kunsthistorische Museum" (Museum of Fine Arts) with its famous collection of old masters of Flemish-Dutch Baroque art.
